Gluten Free Goodie Girl Cookies

When I was a little girl I was a Girl Scout and I loved the Thin Mint Cookies. I would make my mom buy boxes so we could eat them for months. 2009 was the last time I ate a thin mint cookie. Well thanks to Goodie Girl Cookies and their new “Slims”, I can finally enjoy thin mints again!

Goodie Girl Cookies is based out of Tribeca, New York, specializing in gluten free cookies with surprising flavors, as well as exciting twists on cookie classics.  In 2010, Founder, Shira Berk, also a mom and native New Yorker, began her journey to create an all-natural, super-delicious line of cookies that are all gluten free. Her intention was to create cookies that were intended for anyone to eat, but still be accessible to the 30%-and-growing number of population who had to avoid gluten.  Interestingly neither Berk, nor anyone in her family is Celiac, gluten-intolerant, or in need of a gluten-free diet.

Goodie Girl Cookies break the – often dry and flavorless – gluten free cookie mold. The gluten free version of the Girl Scouts’ Thin Mints, called Mint Slims, are my favorite and absolute delicious. Mint Slims are thinner and less dense than the original girl scout cookies and are coated in milk chocolate vs. dark chocolate, but I still find the flavor spot on. Now, I haven’t had a girl scout cookie in 8 years, but my husband loves them too so that says something. The Vanilla Slims are vanilla cookies dressed up in a dark chocolate coating. Definitely acompliment for Vanilla lovers. We also devoured these.

In addition to the Slims, Goodie Girl Cookies has a full line of fresh baked cookies:

  • Oatmeal Raisin: slightly spiced oatmeal cookies
  • Midnight Brownie: double the chocolate and double the pleasure
  • Quinoa Chocolate Chip: crunchy, with a slight nuttiness
  • Toffee Chaos: crunchy caramelized toffee, crispy rice and chocolate make this sweet and salty.

Goodie Girl Cookies are available in full-size (6 or 7 oz.) as well as 2 oz. on-the-go snack packs. Goodie Girl Cookies are available at Walmart,Wegman’s and dozens of other retail locations across the U.S and online on Amazon. Click here to find a location nearest you.

Send Cheryl’s Gluten Free Cookies to your loved ones this Valentine’s Day!

In June I attended the Summer Fancy Food Show where I met Elisabeth Allwein, the Food Development Director at Cheryl’s. There, I had the chance to talk to her about Cheryl’s new line of gluten free cookies and brownies, which just hit the market this past summer!

The gluten-free line features Cheryl’s famous baked goods including fudge brownies, brownie walnut cookies, snicker doodle cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and buttercream frosted sugar cookies, which is to die for. The new gluten free goodies exceed the FDA regulations for gluten free foods, meaning you can safely eat all the cookies you want! The gluten free line is made in separate, dedicated gluten free facility. And they make for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your gluten free loved one(s)!

I’ve tried a lot of gluten free cookies over the years and I have to say that the buttercream frosted cookie is one of the best by far. It is soft and sweet enough that it keeps me coming back for more. I’m also a big fan of the snickerdoodle cookies and fudgey, chocolaty brownies!! The Brownie walnut cookies and chocolate chip cookies are for those that prefer hard and crunchy cookies, they taste great, but I just prefer the softer cookies.

Each cookie and brownie is individually wrapped and available for purchase online. From birthday gifts, to holiday gifts, to thank you gifts, there is something for everyone and every budget. Gluten Free Cookies and Brownies range from $6.99 – $49.99.

Another reason I support Cheryl’s is because they use a gluten free bakery in Columbus, OH, owned byARC Industries, an organization that aims to offer employment opportunities to developmentally and intellectually disabled adults. Cheryl’s already employs some people from ARC, and continues to support this community group and their kitchen, as a training ground for seasonal hires in the future. Cheryl’s brought in some of its own gluten-free equipment, sanitation and production processes as well as management to work with ARC employees.

Bella Gluten Free // Cup-to-Table in Minutes

While I do like to bake from scratch, let’s be honest, I don’t always have the time to do that. So when it comes to products that not only taste great but are easy to prepare then I am all about trying it. And with their line of Cup-to-Table products, Bella Gluten Free is definitely one of these brands I must try!

Bella Gluten Free’s founder, Mary Capone, combines her gluten-free mastery with her love of the kitchen to create scrumptious gluten-free, allergen-free cuisine. Mary is a cookbook author, and nationally known instructor of gourmet gluten and allergen-free foods. As a celiac chef with celiac kids, Mary has designed mixes that not only have great taste and texture but include plenty of healthy ingredients as well.

Bella Gluten Free, offers a selection of 100% natural, non-GMO, allergen-friendly baking mixes in an easy, and convenient Cup-to-Table packaging .

Products include:

  • Tender Flaky Biscuit Mix
  • Chewy Chocolate Brownie Mix
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
  • Rustic Multigrain Dinner Roll Mix
  • Gourmet Italian Pizza Crust Mix
  • Blueberry Scone Mix

Bella Gluten Free mixes combine taste, texture and nutrition all into one. They use the finest assortment of all-natural, non-GMO and organic ingredients. And because they take cross contamination seriously, all products are blended in small batches in a 100% gluten-free facility to guarantee freshness and purity. They are GFCO certified and a recipient of the non-GMO Verification Project.

From the innovative and eye catching packaging, to the ready in minutes baking, I was excited to try Bella Gluten Free’s products. Using Whole grain flours and superior ingredients, Bella Gluten Free developed a range of sweet and savory allergen friendly baking mixes that allow you to make fresh baked products in your home in just minutes. (OMG, such a time saver!)  The mixes are easy to make and require only 2-3 ingredients, that I keep stocked in my fridge at all times I might add, and can be baked in less than 30 minutes.

Bella Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix was the first mix I made. It starts with a 100% allergen-free All Purpose Baking Mix, creating the perfect texture. Mixed with dextrose-free chocolate chips and organic coconut sugar, a subtle sweetener like brown sugar, with a hint of caramel, make for a chewy on the edges and soft in the middle cookie. The mix makes about 18 cookies and didn’t last long in our apartment. Within days Jeremy and I had eaten them all! Time to go to the gym I guess…

The brownies were even better than the cookies! These chewy chocolate brownies are loaded with rich chocolate chips and cocao powder for delicious chocolately goodness. Whether you like them gooey (like me!) or classic cake-like you can have hot brownies in minutes.

And tonight is Pizza Night! We are going to be making his (loaded with cheese) and her (dairy free, with tons of vegetables) pizzas!

Here are a couple of tips that you may find useful for Bella Gluten Free Cups:
Tip for your pizza: Use moistened fingertips to shape on sprayed parchment paper. I like crispy crust so I parbake for 7 minutes and then add my toppings, but you do not have to-it is delicious if you put it all together from the beginning!!
Tip for your biscuits and scones: freeze butter or butter substitute for 20 minutes or so and use a cheese grater to grate and disperse it throughout the mix before adding your wet ingredients.  Scones: use wet fingertips and form a circle with dough about 2 inches thick. Use a warm slightly wet knife to cut into 6-8 pie shape wedges, separate a little. They are not very sweet so if you plan on eating with jam or curd then great, if not add a bit of finishing sugar on top of each wedge.
Tip for your multigrain rolls:  use ice cream scooper to get equal amounts and even baking (this is a great tip for the chocolate chip cookies too), place the scoops of bread dough into a sprayed muffin tin and let rise in warm place for 15 mins and then bake!  Also you can form a circle to make a Boule out of the dough and increase bake time to 25 minutes (or use thermometer to temp at around 190-200 degrees for done).

Namaste Foods Gluten Free Baking Mixes Review Giveaway

Namaste foods is a small (but growing!) manufacturer of fine foods that contain no wheat, gluten, corn, soy, potato, dairy, casein, peanuts or tree nuts. I’ve been a big fan of Namaste foods quick & easy meals for years. At least once per month Jeremy and I make Pasta Pisavera or Taco Pasta. But it wasn’t until last month at the GF&AF Expo did I discover that Namaste foods also makes delicious baking mixes! IMG_2858

Namaste’s offers a variety of breakfast basics, including:

  • bread & roll mix
  • muffin & scone mix
  • flour blend
  • organic flour blend
  • sugar free muffin mix
  • pancake & waffle mix
  • organic pumpkin baking mix

And cookie, cake & dessert mixes:

  • brownie mix
  • cookie mix
  • pure vanilla cake mix
  • chocolate cake mix
  • spice & carrot cake mic
  • blondie mix
  • organic dark chocolate brownie mix
  • organic pumpkin baking mix

I had no idea they offered so many products – they also have soups, pizza crusts, and seasoned coating mixes – and I was thrilled to learn all about them last month. After the expo, Namaste sent me a few products to try out myself and I couldn’t wait to get baking!

Namaste’s facility contains no wheat, gluten, corn, soy, potato, dairy, peanuts or tree nuts. It is their attempt to try to eliminate any chance of cross-contamination so you can enjoy Namaste Foods products worry-free. They do not use GMO ingredients in any product and all Namaste Food products are Kosher Certified. Aditionally, all products are made with only all-natural ingredients, no preservatives, and are vegan friendly.

Knowing gluten free products are expensive, Namaste has made an effort to make them more affordable for you. You will find that most Namaste Foods mixes have a significantly higher yield than other brands. For instance, all cake mixes make TWO rounds as opposed to one, making each purchase a better bang for your buck.

Namaste Foods knocks it out of the park again with their baking mixes! The taste, texture and consistency of the gluten free cookies were spot on. The cookie mix is so versatile, just like many of Namaste’s other mixes. On it’s own, this cookie will taste like your favorite sugar cookie, and also make delicious snicker doodle cookies (my favorite!). Or get creative and add dried apricots and macadamia nuts, chocolate chips or peanut butter chips, or any combination that pleases your palate!

I also like that these cookies are not loaded with sugar. While most cookies have upwards of 20 grams of sugar per serving, Namaste’s gluten free cookie mix only has 9 grams.

Cookie Mix Nutritional Information

Once again, Namaste Foods is a trusted gluten free brand that keeps things tasting great, while also using the best ingredients.

You can find Namaste Foods at natural food stores nationwide and at a growing number of grocery stores throughout the United States and Canada, including Fairway and Whole Foods. To find a retail location nearest you click here.

Jiva USDA Organic White Rice Flour Review & Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Jiva USDA Organic White Rice Flour is from quality, organic Rice. Organic white rice flour is a favorite ingredient for gluten free baking, lending a light and delicate sponginess to baked goods. It is also great for breading and thickening soup, sauce, or gravies.

The refined version of organic brown rice flour, organic white rice flour can be used interchangeably with brown rice flour. The second largest world crop, rice is a staple food in Asia where, unlike most grains, it is grown on small paddies and harvested by hand, just as it has been for centuries.

It is lighter, milder, and easier to digest than wheat flour. Some people find white rice flour to be slightly gritty, but many, including myself, find it preferable to bean flours.

White rice flour is naturally gluten free, rich in carbohydrates and low in fat. Jiva Organics Rice Flour is also USDA certified organic.

White rice flour can be used to bake cakes, cookies, dumplings, breads and more, as well as thicken sauces and coat fish and other proteins. It is also very popular for the preparation of a variety of Asian noodles, which are a staple in Eastern cuisine.

Schmackary’s Gluten Free Cookies // Hell’s Kitchen NYC

Screen Shot 2015-01-18 at 3.30.20 PM

One of the best discoveries I’ve made since moving to New York City in September is Schmackary’s gluten free cookies.

Schmackary’s is located off 9th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, which is both good (it’s convenient) and bad (it’s so close, I go all the time!)

The menu features over 45 types of “modern cookie classics” and “seasonal cookie sensations” that rotate daily and seasonally. Everyday they offer one or two gluten free cookies and one gluten free macaroons

The gluten free flavors include:
{V = vegan N = may contain nuts}

Yogi Bare: {V, N} gluten free oats / peanut butter / applesauce / cranberries / almonds / sunflower seeds / pumpkin seeds / raisins / maple syrup / cinnamon

Mint Mojito: corn flour / fresh mint leaves / lime oil / cuban rum glaze

Strawberries & Cream: strawberries / white chocolate / strawberry glaze

Gluten Free Green Tea Cookie
Gluten Free Green Tea Cookie

Green Tea: {N} matcha green tea / white chocolate / macadamia nuts / green tea glaze.

Surprisingly, I loved this flavor. I’m not a big matcha fan, but the flavor is mild and the white chocolate chips add a nice sweetness.

Monster Mash: {N} gluten-free oats / peanut butter / M&M’s / semi-sweet chocolate / raisins

Sweet Corn: {N} corn flour / cornmeal / sweet corn / cranberries / pecan bits

Gluten Free Sweet Corn Cookie

If you can imagine cornbread in cookie form, then you can imagine what this delicious
cookie tastes like.

Candied Yam: corn flour / sweet potato / brown sugar / cinnamon / toasted marshmallow

Delicious toasted marshmallow frosting tops a mildly flavored cookie. I couldn’t taste the yams, I was worried it would be too strong but it was judt fine.

Lemon Poppy: corn flour / lemon / poppyseed / sweet lemon glaze

Eggnog: gluten free sugar base / eggnog frosting / cinnamon

The cookies are soft and gooey and keep me coming back for more. I can’t say enough good things about the cookies. Although, I would like to see more gluten free options each day!

For those of you who prefer macaroons, Schmackaroons might be what you need. All flavors are gluten free, and include:

  • Chocolate Toffee: coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / semi-sweet chocolate / toffee bits
  • Salted Caramel Toffee: coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / salted caramel / toffee bits
  • Butter Pecan {N} coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / butterscotch chips / pecan bits
  • Chocolate Duo: coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / semi-sweet chocolate / white chocolate
  • Cinnamon Raisin Walnut: {N} coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / raisins / walnuts / cinnamon
  • Butterscotch: coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / butterscotch chips
  • White Chocolate Pistachio: {N} coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / white chocolate / pistachios
  • Very Berry: coconut flakes / egg whites / sweetened condensed milk / seasonal berries

The Same Pure Butter Taste, Minus the Gluten: Walkers Debuts Gluten Free Shortbread Line

I want to share some exciting news: for the first time in 116 years, Walkers Shortbread has adapted its traditional shortbread recipe. Walkers now offers its first-ever Gluten Free Shortbread, providing an authentic shortbread for those who are gluten intolerant, or choose a gluten free diet. The new line debuts with three varieties: Pure Butter Shortbread, Chocolate Chip, and Ginger & Lemon. Walkers promises the pure butter taste and texture you love, just without the gluten.

The new line evolved from years of development to produce a pure buttery taste that founder Joseph Walker would have proudly served at his Scottish Highland village bakery. Close your eyes, bite in and see if you can tell the difference. You can’t. So if you’ve been missing shortbread cookies, you no longer have to yearn for them thanks to Walkers!

Walkers Gluten Free line replaces wheat flour with a blend of rice flour, maize flour, and potato starch, while retaining the same butter and sugar content as the traditional shortbreads. As is Walkers custom, the cookies contain no artificial flavorings, colorings, or preservatives. The texture and taste are spot on. It tasted and felt exactly like a shortbread cookie. Jeremy couldn’t notice a difference and the cookies didn’t last long in our apartment; he devoured them!

The new gluten free line includes three shortbreads:

  • Gluten Free Pure Butter Shortbread: The classic pure butter gluten free shortbread offers a crumbly “melt-in-your-mouth” texture and all butter taste.
  • Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread: A generous helping of chocolate chips provides a rich and luxurious complement to this classic shortbread.
  • Gluten Free Ginger & Lemon Shortbread: This crumbly shortbread combines the best of traditional Scottish baking with the exotic tang of Lemon and Stem Ginger.

“We are delighted to introduce a gluten free option to the Walkers Shortbread line, allowing everyone the opportunity to enjoy this delicious traditional treat without compromising on taste,” said Jim Walker, Managing Director, Walkers Shortbread. “With so many now suffering from food intolerances, we feel it is important to create choices for all and are proud to have the unique offering of traditional shortbread, which is certified gluten free. With three different options, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

With less than 20 parts per million of gluten, Walkers Gluten Free Shortbread meets the FDA standard for gluten free food, with every batch tested to ensure compliance before its release. The line contains no genetically modified ingredients or hydrogenated fats, and is vegetarian and Kosher.

Established in 1898 in Aberlour, Scotland, family-owned Walkers Shortbread is the leading brand of food exported from Scotland, and remains committed to quality, with human eyes on every facet of the baking process, and using only the finest butter made from the milk of free-grazing, small herd cows. To this day, members of the Walker family gather in their bakery to taste test the latest ideas, with only those deemed finest approved for production.

Walkers Gluten Free Shortbread will appear at retailers across the country in the coming months and is available for purchase online at
