Gluten Free Snack Swaps

These gluten-free swaps are perfect for gluten-free and gluten-eaters alike and for all snacking occasions from game day get-togethers to BBQs, school events, picnics, or simply a between-meal snack.

Today, I want to introduce you to two new snacks I recently had the chance to try!

Good Health Snacks– the creator of crunchy, crave-worthy snacks that make it easy to make better choices. Gluten-free snacks include:

  • Half Naked© Hint of Olive Oil Popcorn
  • Avocado Oil Kettle Style Potato Chips
  • Olive Oil Kettle Style Potato Chips
  • Sweet Potato Kettle Style Chips
  • Sea Salt Pretzels

The pretzels. OMG. SO GOOD. I ate almost half the bag when I opened it. These taste like the real thing. They are crunchy and salty and made without yeast; this is the first gluten free pretzel I’ve found without yeast and I could not have been more excited. Not only that, it is by far the best tasting pretzel I’ve tried.

Mamee Stacked Crisps is a line of unbelievably delicious, gluten-free and GMO-free potato crisps stacked in canisters to create a perfect crunch every time. The three flavors available are:

  • Original
  • BBQ
  • Sour Cream & Onion

These remind of another popular stacked potato chip brand I used to eat as a kid. I love the crunchiness, thinness, and the fact that they are not salty. Jeremy loves them too, he says he can’t tell they are gluten free. Not only do these taste good, they are made with a cleaner ingredient profile.

Good Health® snacks are available nationwide in natural and grocery stores, while Mamee Stacked Crisps are available at select natural and traditional grocers nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com.

Laiki Crackers made from just 3 simple ingredients

Specialty rice – colorful red and black varieties of rice – have been making waves for the past few years in the natural foods industry, thanks to recent discoveries of antioxidant contents and storied history of these ancient grains. Capitalizing on the natural goodness of these grains, Bay- Area food startup Grains of Health LLC has announced the launch of a full line of 100% specialty rice crackers, Laiki, made from just 3 simple ingredients: black/red rice, palm fruit oil, sea salt. Nothing Else.

Food should be simple and nutritious. It should satisfy from the time you read the label to the last crunch. Enter Laiki Crackers. These delicious crackers offer the option to not have to read a label or feel guilty about snacking. These un-apologetically simple crackers were born through an insight of the nutrient packed varieties of rice – black and red that contain phytonutrients and antioxidants along with protein. Not only are the crackers wholesome and nutritious but they are minimally processed in order to retain as many nutrients and antioxidants as possible and to let the natural flavors of the rice shine through.  The texture is unlike any other rice cracker –  a satisfying airy crunch.

Laiki offers a better-for-you rice cracker with zero allergens.  The crackers are free of the top eight allergens – milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soy – and are also all natural, non-GMO Project Verified and vegan. In addition, Laiki Crackers are made directly from specialty 100% whole grain rice unlike other rice crackers that typically use glutinous rice flour.

Laiki Crackers are available online at in two pack sizes: 3.5 oz resealable stand up bags with a SRP of $3.8 to $4.39, and portion-controlled, single-serve 100 calorie snack packs with SRP of $1.25 to $1.39.

Gluten Free Awareness Month Day 19: Wellaby’s Gluten Free Crackers & Cheese Ups

Wellaby’s is a gluten-free snack and cracker brand imported from Greece. All of Wellaby’s products are made in a dedicated Gluten Free facility, thus eliminating the risk of cross-contamination. In addition, they conduct constant lab tests to ensure that Wellaby’s products always deliver the best quality and never become contaminated with unwanted ingredients. Wellaby’s products are also non-GMO, and free from trans fats, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, and preservatives.

Wellaby’s makes a variety of snacks including my favorite pita chips (which I reviewed last year on my blog.)

Chili Cheese Ups

I recently tried the newest flavor of Wellaby’s Cheese Ups line; Chili. These small triangle-shaped, slightly puffy, crackers are a tasty and fun snack to eat. Available in four flavors— Classice Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, Chili, and Smokehouse Cheese— they are made with 43% real cheese.

Screen Shot 2015-05-18 at 6.52.33 PM

The Chili Cheese Ups are just like the classic Cheese Ups; light and crunchy, but with a spicy chili twist. The flavor and spiciness is not too hot, I can handle it, but it gives it a nice little kick at the end.

Wellaby’s crackers are available in 4 flavors— Classic Cheese, Feta Oregano Olive Oil, Parmesan Sundried Tomato, and Rosemary. Baked, not fried, with 65% less fat than normal potato chips, the crackers are perfect for pairing with dips and spreads, and they had no aftertaste like some other gluten-free products. Nor did they make my mouth dry as some products tend to do.

The Rosemary Crackers have aromas of Mediterranean herbs that you can taste and feel down to the very last bite.

Green Mountain Gringo Salsa and Tortilla Strips Review & Giveaway

Screen Shot 2014-12-07 at 4.02.36 PM

Chips and salsa are one of my favorite gluten free snacks. Tortilla chips and salsa are almost always gluten free. Come to think of it, I don’t know any that are not. Even though it is incredibly easy to find gluten free chips and salsa, it’s not always easy to find healthy, fresh, and non-GMO varieties.

Let me introduce you to Green Mountain Gringo Salsa and Tortilla Strips.

The tortilla strips were a huge hit in this house. They were crunchy and fresh tasting. The Strip was invented to go beyond sturdy and reliable to reach a whole new level of taste satisfaction. A solid rectangle of pure leverage makes it stable enough for the most aggressive of dippers. Either end features an ergonomic handle allowing even the “power dipper” an enjoyable experience. Sturdy and dependable, they won’t break short of your expectations.

It’s important to me that I can pronounce all the ingredients in the foods I buy. The tortilla strips have just that. Like all Green Mountain products, these strips are gluten free, preservative free, fat free, kosher certified, non-GMO and all natural.

INGREDIENTS: Organic Stone-Ground Masa Harina Corn Flour, Non-Hydrogenated Safflower Oil and/or Sunflower Oil, Salt

Just what it needs and nothing it doesn’t.” Those eight words sum up Green Mountains entire approach to salsa. Because they believe that when you start with superior, all natural ingredients, you can make something delicious without taking chemical shortcuts.

That’s why they use hand picked vegetables and the perfect blend of essential herbs and spices. On paper, the recipe probably seems rather simple. But to those who know their salsas, Tastefully Crafted is the only way to describe it.

Green Mountain Salsa is available in five varieties: Mild, Medium, Hot, Roasted Chili, and Roasted Garlic.

I was sent the Roasted Garlic Salsa. A medium heat with open-flame roasted garlic added, it is not salty or over garlicky. It has a natural and fresh taste with a little kick at the end.

Food Should Taste Good Gluten Free Tortilla Chips Review and GIVEAWAY

At my house, I try to make sure we have healthy snack options. For us, that means food that is truly food and is not overly processed. So, when I had the opportunity to review Food Should Taste Good (FSTG) tortilla chips, I didn’t hesitate to say yes.fstg_blacklogo

Made from wholesome ingredients, FSTG chips have been recognized with over 40 awards and are sourced with real all-natural ingredients, zero trans fats, and no cholesterol, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Beyond their award winning taste, these chips are certified gluten free and Kosher, and are the perfect anytime snack.

FSTG makes eighteen flavors of tortilla chips, five flavors of kettle cooked potato chips, and brown rice crackers. Some of the unique flavors include Kimchi, Jalapeño, Harvest Pumpkin, and Ancho Chile Sweet Potato. FSTG was generous enough to offer me four bags of their tortilla chips to review so that I could share my opinions with you. I sampled the Sweet Potato, Olive, Lime, and Multigrain.IMG_5204

Thankfully I had taken a picture of all 4 bags as soon as I received the box because the same night I received them, Jeremy tore into one of the bags and nearly ate the whole thing!

The Olive chips are made with a combination of real black kalamata and green olives, offering a genuine flavor, which punches up a quick snack and pairs great with hummus. I was surprised by how much I liked this flavor, because I don’t usually like olive flavored snacks.

IMG_5206The Lime tortilla chips are made with real lime juice and are a refreshing snack for anytime of the day. They are perfect on their own and a great addition to any dip, especially guacamole. FSTG has some great recipes for dips to go along with these chips (and other flavors too!).lime_digimock

The Multigrain tortilla chips provide an extra helping of protein and fiber, and are made from healthful ingredients such as quinoa and flax seeds. They still contain fat and sodium, which are hard to avoid in this kind of snack food, especially without using artificial flavorings or additives.

I really liked the Sweet Potato (surprise, surprise). A hint of cane sugar enhances the natural nuttiness of the sweet potato. Both this flavor and the multigrain were thick enough to be used as a cracker as well.IMG_5332

Overall these are really good chips with great taste and sophisticated flavor. The best part is that they are full of simple, healthy ingredients—quinoa, flaxseed, sweet potato—and made without the unhealthy stuff, like MSG, trans fat and artificial flavors.
