Kuli Kuli Moringa – A superfood for 2018

Sterling-Rice Group’s Culinary Trends 2018 report is the culmination of a year-long examination of the global foodscape, based on international scouting trips, in-depth primary research, and input from the Culinary Council, a team of more than 175 chefs, restauranteurs, and food experts from around the world. While some culinary trends may rise and fall within the same calendar year, many of the most relevant trends follow longer arcs, manifesting in connected, yet new, innovations along the way. One of the projected hot new superfoods of 2018 is moringa.

Kuli Kuli Foods is America’s leading moringa brand, and has worked to build a supply chain with women-owned cooperatives and small farmers across Africa and South America. Kali Kuli’s powder, bars and energy shots are gluten free and sold in over 6,000 stores.

Although this plant was initially discovered for its beneficial properties thousands of years ago, only recently has moringa (sometimes called the Ben oil tree) become known as one of the most impressive herbal supplements to hit the holistic health market. In fact, in 2008 the National Institute of Health called moringa (moringa oleifera) the “plant of the year,” acknowledging that “perhaps like no other single species, this plant has the potential to help reverse multiple major environmental problems and provide for many unmet human needs.”

Kuli Kuli’s moringa is rich in iron, calcium, vitamins, and antioxidants, and provides a complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids. Gram for gram, moringa contains two times the amount of protein of yogurt, four times the amount of vitamin A as carrots, four times the amount of calcium as cow’s milk, seven times amount of vitamin C as oranges. I think you get the picture. 

Morninga has many benefits including: anti-inflammatory, balances hormones and slows the effects of aging, helps improve digestive health and balances blood sugar levels, to name a few. 

All of Kuli Kuli’s products are gluten free, vegan, soy free, dairy free and non-GMO. My favorite are the Moringa Superfood Bars which are available in three flavors: Dark Chocolate, Crunchy Almond and Black Cherry.The bars are chewy and slightly sweet and with 190 calories and more fiber than a bowl of oatmeal, they keep me going all morning.
