Celebrating Non-GMO Month with Pereg Qunioa Pasta

October is Non-GMO Month, the largest outreach campaign of the Non-GMO Project, according to Non-GMO News.

The Non-GMO Project label verifies that a product doesn’t contain genetically modified (GMO) ingredients.  Non-genetically modified means that plants or organisms are left as they are, as they were created in nature. In genetic modification, one or more of the genes has been altered using genetic engineering techniques, creating a new DNA. Some scientists, consumers and environmental groups cite health and environmental risks associated with foods that have been genetically modified (designated GMO).

Thus, a movement in the food industry for Non-GMO products was created, and more and more manufacturers, as well as consumers, are jumping onto the Non-GMO band wagon, especially in the natural food, organic and health food industries.

I’ve cooked with Pereg spices before and was very excited to their all natural quinoa pasta. Made from 100% quinoa flour, the quinoa pasta has more carbs and protein per serving than most pastas. It has a firmer texture than traditional pasta and a distinct nutty quinoa-like taste that I really like. 

Pereg Quinoa Pasta is available in three shapes: curvo rigate, fusilli and spaghetti.
