Bear Pond Farms Pesto

Earlier this week I posed about Bear Pond Farms new heat-and-serve Queso. In that post I also mentioned that Bear Pone Farms first product line was it’s Pestos, and today I’m here to talk about all about pesto.

IMG_1786

Bear Pond Farms is located in Glastonbury, CT and has been making gluten free pesto sauces and dips for 13 years. The pesto sauces capture that sparkling-green awesomeness—in uniquely flavorful and mindful ways. Made with organic herbs, non-GMO oil, and sheep’s milk pecorino romano cheese, all of the pestos are gluten free. They also make two vegan pesto varieties if dairy isn’t your thing.

I don’t usually buy pre-made sauces, I tend to make my own, but when Pear Pond Farms asked if I would like to try their pestos, I decided to try them. Why you ask? First, I liked that the ingredients are non-GMO and that all products are gluten free. Secondly, the ingredient list is short – herbs, oil, garlic and cheese – nothing unrecognizable or unpronounceable.

Bear Pond Farms Pesto is available in 7 varieties:

  • 3 Greens Pesto (vegan)
  • Cilantro Pesto
  • Tomato Basil Pesto
  • Sun dried tomato pesto
  • Spice vegan pesto
  • Premium basil pesto
  • Artichoke pesto

My favorite so far is the 3 Greens Pesto. It is a lighter and modern vegan pesto made with organic kale and arugula. It is earthy and tangy and perfect with many dishes. I used this pesto to make chicken and broccoli pasta and it was delicious! It was super easy to make. Sear chicken in olive oil and 2 tablespoons pesto over medium-high heat until almost cooked. Add in broccoli and 2 more tablespoons of pesto. Cook until chicken is done. Add it pasta and desired amount of pesto. Toss and serve.

Bear Pond Farms has a variety of recipes and tips available on their website

The pestos and quesos are lab tested <20 ppm gluten. Though they are made at a MA packer that is not a gluten free facility, it is SQF2 certified with preventatives in place to prevent ingredient cross-contamination.

Siete Family Foods launches new Grain Free Tortilla Chips

Look out chip aisle, there are new players in town! While we’ve recently seen a prevalence of grain-free snacks to munch on, Siete Family Foods has taken it a step further with grain-free tortilla chips made from anti-inflammatory ingredients like cassava flour.

IMG_1643

Over the summer I tried Siete’s grain free tortillas, which I loved, so I was thrilled to learn about their new line of chips and even more thrilled to try them!

Made with cassava flour, avocado oil, and other real food ingredients, the chips come in three classic flavor varieties: Sea Salt, Nacho, and Lime. With demand for anti-inflammatory and better-for-you snacks on the rise, Siete’s chips satisfy both taste and dietary needs.

My favorite flavor is Sea Salt. It tastes like a fresh tortilla chip you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. The avocado oil gives it a delicious and slightly oily flavor that I love. These are my new favorite chips! We served them during Sunday’s football party and our friends devoured them! I will definitely be getting more before our Superbowl party!

All three varieties of Siete Grain Free Tortilla Chips are Non-GMO Project Verified, Gluten-Free Certified, and are completely free of corn, wheat, rice, beans, soy, and dairy. The paleo and vegan-friendly chips are perfect for snacking straight out of the bag, as well as for pairing with fresh salsa or guacamole, yum!

Siete Grain Free Tortilla Chips will be available for purchase at Whole Foods Market locations nationwide starting January 2017 (SRP $4.99) and I saw them at my local Whole Foods for the first time yesterday! Click here to find a location nearest you.

premium organic tiger nut flour

If you are looking for flour that’s Gluten Free, Organic, NUT FREE, Non Allergenic, Non-GMO then you have just found it!

1lb_Flour-01_grande

Premium Organic Tiger Nuts Flour is milled from fine Raw Premium Organic Tiger Nuts and bakes 1-1 just like ordinary Flour. What’s so great about this flour, is that because it is ground so fine, you can use it as a smoothie mix too. Just put a few spoonfuls with fresh fruit or vegetables, together with some ice and a little water and throwing it all in a blender for terrific smoothies.

So you might be a little confused right now. Tiger Nuts are actually NOT nuts, they are a tuber that grows below the ground’s surface. They have all of the nutrients and energy benefits of nuts and then some, but without the stuff that can adversely affect allergies. hey are packed with fiber, vitamins and nutrients, and deliver a serious dose of energy. And because they have so much fiber, they make you feel full, which of course helps curb your appetite.

I recently experimented with baking with this flour for the first time. I love chocolate chip cookies and this recipe was hit! I served the cookies to our friends who were over during the Patriots game last night and by the end of the night all of the cookies were gone!

Hearthy Organic Pumpkin Flour

Last week I posted about Hearthy Foods gluten free pies. Today, I want to talk about another product from Hearthy Foods. As you know I love pumpkin – pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin curry, just to name a few. And I just learned of a fun new pumpkin product – Pumpkin flour! Until last week, I didn’t know pumpkin flour existed and I was very excited when Hearthy Foods sent me their pumpkin flour to try!

hf-flour-pumpkin-f-600

Hearthy Organic Pumpkin Flour is an excellent rich dietary source of minerals like copper, calcium, potassium and phosphorus and magnesium, nutrients that are essential for heart health and muscle recovery.  It is an easily digestible source of potassium, vitamins, minerals and beta-carotene. Also, Pumpkin Flour has Vitamin A, and Vitamin C.

hf-flour-pumpkin-b-600

Pumpkin Flour is a sweet and irresistible flour perfectly suited to replace all-purpose flour. You can add it to any recipe – use in bread, pancakes, brownies, cookies, cakes, muffins, waffles, ice creams or smoothies for an extra boost of nutrition and flavor. Most recipes suggest substituting pumpkin flour for up to 1/4 of the amount of regular flour. I used it in cookies by replacing half the all purpose flour with pumpkin flour. I loved the sweet pumpkin flavor it gave the cookies!

Hearthy Pumpkin Flour is Gluten Free, Paleo, Grain Free, Dairy Free, Nut Free, Soy Free, Organic and non-GMO.

You can purchase Hearthy Organic Pumpkin Flour online via Amazon and Hearthy’s online store. Hearthy also makes almond flour, apple flour, banana flour, carrot flour, oat flour and potato flour.

Frontier Bites || Crunchy Energizing Bites

Frontier Bites were created several years ago when two brothers challenged each other to a baking competition to see who could come up with the best alternative to the over-processed energy bars that they regularly ate. The rules were simple: less than 10 ingredients; gluten, soy and dairy free; no refined sugars and only ingredients you can find in your pantry.

img_1130

In the end it was Nate’s Almond Blueberry Lemon bites that won the day and for the next year, Nate and his brother continued to tweak the original recipe until they got it just right.  From there on the Bites were a constant companion in the office, on hikes and on fishing runs.

Frontier Bites are still make with less than 10 ingredients; 8 to be exact. Frontier Bites keep it simple while allowing you to eat right and snack smart at the same time.

Frontier Bites are available in 3 flavors:

  • Almond Blueberry Lemon
  • Macadamia Pineapple Coconut
  • Pecan Cherry Cinnamon

img_1131

My favorite is the Almond Blueberry Lemon. Crunchy almonds, wild blueberries and tart lemon form a well-balanced crunch that will provide the energy you need without the sugar crash you dread. It is slightly sweet and plenty crunchy.

Whether you’re carpooling kids around town, burning the midnight oil at the office or climbing a mountain, Frontier Bites will be the fuel to help you get there.

You can find Frontier Bites in retail locations across the country. Click here to find a retail location nearest you. You can also purchase Frontier Bites online via Amazon.

Quinn Snacks NEW Gluten Free Pretzels

Who doesn’t love pretzels? I know I do! One of the hardest snacks to give up when I went gluten free 7 years ago was pretzels. And finding a tasty gluten free pretzel? Forget it. They all tasted like cardboard. But not anymore!! I am so excited to share with you the newest product from Quinn Snacks – gluten free pretzels!!!!

Quinn Snacks’ new Gluten-Free Pretzels establishes many firsts for gluten free pretzels: first whole grain, ancient grain, corn-free, soy-free, dairy-free, non-GMO project verified gluten-free pretzel with full ingredient transparency!!   They use whole grain sorghum to  because it is so much better than the corn and soy ingredients found in other gluten free pretzels.

img_1043

While most other gluten free pretzels are made with GMO cornstarch as the first ingredient, due to ingredient cost cutting and manufacturing convenience, Quinn’s pretzels are made from real ingredients like whole grain sorghum and organic honey.

The new pretzels are available in two varieties, Touch of Honey and Classic Sea Salt, they are pretzels reimagined.  They taste like the classic pretzels I grew up eating. They are so addictive, be careful or you might eat the whole bag in one sitting like we did.

14947758_1191952027541861_8465965883539540538_n

They tastes better, crunch better, are better for you, and better for the land.  Sorghum produces antioxidants and polyphenols to protect itself from pests and disease.  In some varieties the sorghum bran (the husk that surrounds the grain) contains higher levels of antioxidants than blueberries.
farm-to-bag

Quinn Snack’s Farm-to-Bag transparency portal allows consumers to see where every ingredient comes from and learn about the growers and suppliers. Where and how an ingredient is grown has been a trade secret in the food industry, and in many cases the ‘brands’ are far removed from the ‘growing’. Quinn Snacks created a radically transparent supply chain. Through the new Farm-to-Bag Portal,  Quinn’s entire supply chain is revealed. The interactive map, complete with in-depth grower and supplier profiles, allows customers to learn more not only about the ingredients but also the growers.  Quinn is the first and only snack company with this level of transparency.

Quinn Pretzels  are now available on Amazon and in Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, MOM’s Organic Market stores, and health food stores across the country. Click here to find a retail location nearest you.

Celebrating Non-GMO Month with Pereg Qunioa Pasta

screen-shot-2016-10-24-at-6-45-52-pm

October is Non-GMO Month, the largest outreach campaign of the Non-GMO Project, according to Non-GMO News.

The Non-GMO Project label verifies that a product doesn’t contain genetically modified (GMO) ingredients.  Non-genetically modified means that plants or organisms are left as they are, as they were created in nature. In genetic modification, one or more of the genes has been altered using genetic engineering techniques, creating a new DNA. Some scientists, consumers and environmental groups cite health and environmental risks associated with foods that have been genetically modified (designated GMO).

Thus, a movement in the food industry for Non-GMO products was created, and more and more manufacturers, as well as consumers, are jumping onto the Non-GMO band wagon, especially in the natural food, organic and health food industries.

Pereg Natural Foods is a leading producer of Non-GMO food products which also happen to be all natural, kosher, vegan, non-dairy and gluten free. They include a range of foods: gluten-free flours in six varieties, gluten free pasta, premium spices and spice blends, ancient grains, and an extensive line of quinoa and couscous products. Pereg Natural Foods manufactures all its products from start to finish, controlling the quality from the sourcing until the product is packed and ready for the consumer.

Says Gill Schneider, President, Pereg Natural Foods, “From the get-go Pereg Natural Foods has been producing its food products using Non-GMO verified ingredients, while many other companies are just now switching form GMO. While genetic modification affects many of the products we consume on a daily basis, we at Pereg are proud to offer our customers premium food products made from all natural ingredients, that are healthful, nutritious and delicious, and Non-GMO verified.”

Family-owned since 1906, Pereg Natural Foods strives to provide its customers with the best products the world has to offer.  All of the brand’s offerings are 100% pure, fresh and natural and never include any additives, preservatives, fillers, MSG, or food coloring. In addition, every product is certified kosher by the OU and CRC.

I’ve cooked with Pereg spices before and was very excited to their all natural quinoa pasta. Made from 100% quinoa flour, the quinoa pasta has more carbs and protein per serving than most pastas. It has a firmer texture than traditional pasta and a distinct nutty quinoa-like taste that I really like.

Pereg Quinoa Pasta is available in three shapes: curvo rigate, fusilli and spaghetti.

Pereg products are available at select natural and health food stores, kosher supermarkets and online.

SuperEats NEW High Protein Sacha Inchi Tortilla Chips and Puffs

screen-shot-2016-10-20-at-8-48-04-pm
If you’re not familiar with SuperEats, let me tell you a little bit about them. SuperEats is a healthy snack company who brings an innovative, health conscious, and crave-able twist to traditional snacks.

SuperEats newest endeavor is a line of Sacha Inchi tortilla chips and puffs; think healthy, gluten free, protein-packed versions of Doritos and Cheetos made from a Peruvian super seed. These chips and puffs just launched and I was lucky enough to get a box sent to me to try!

img_0828

Ok, so what is Sacha Inchi? If you are like me, then you probably have not heard about this seed before. Sacha Inchi is a sustainably-grown seed native to the mountainous regions of the Peruvian Andes. Known was “the giving seed”, it looks and tastes like a peanut and gives you loads of needed nutrition from complete protein to vitamins and healthy fats.

In fact, each serving of Sacha Inchi tortilla chips and puffs contain 8-10 grams of protein! That’s the equivalent of eating 2 cups of spinach, 1/3 cup legumes or beans. I think I’ll take the chips.

nutrition_truffle_1oz_revised_large

Not only gluten free, Sacha Inchi tortilla chips and puffs are vegan, non-GMO and Kosher.
img_0829

Finally a healthy puff snack! But the real question is, how do they taste? Delicious! I love the crunchiness and healthiness of each bite. The flavors taste natural and there is no funny aftertaste you get sometimes when eating other flavored chips. The Truffle and Rosemary Puff was my favorite! It had just enough truffle taste to make it slightly rich and earthy, and paired with the lemon-pine flavor, it was the perfect combination.

You can purchase SuperEats products in over 4,000 store locations across the U.S. and online via Amazon. Look out for the new Sacha Inchi tortilla chips and puffs hitting store shelves this fall!
