So, which bar was my favorite? I liked the Coconut Dream is the perfect balance between sweetness and bold cacao. The Absinthe is the most unique flavor I tried. Flavors of fennel and anise come through and it is not something I’ve ever tasted with chocolate before.

Dick Taylor’s approach to chocolate making is very hands-on. They are committed to making the best chocolate they know how. Over time, as their knowledge of the process of making chocolate has grown, the process has become more and more complex. The current methods are a result of study, research, experimentation and trial-and-error. And the goal is to constantly be improving their chocolate as well as recognizing any shortcomings. 

Dick Taylor Chocolate sources the finest fairly-traded cacao and perform all the steps in-house to turn the raw ingredients into delicious chocolate, all in a small factory in Eureka, California. This entire process takes approximately three weeks to complete but allows for the making some of the finest chocolate possible. By using organic cacao and organic cane sugar, and by not cutting corners or taking shortcuts in the process, they are able to leave out vanilla, additional cocoa butter or other emulsifiers, in hopes of capturing and highlighting the subtle flavor nuances in the cacao sourced from around the world.

I’ve tried a number of Hilary’s burgers and I have to say my favorites include the original, Adzuki burger and Root Veggie Burger. Veggie burgers are perfect for those nights that you need protein but don’t want meat. They are also super easy and quick to make, and make for the perfect busy weeknight meal. 

Every product meets the following standards:

  • Convenient. foods for people who care about what they eat while living their busy lives.
  • Clean. certified organic ingredients are real food, minimally processed and as close to their natural state as possible.
  • Free-from. all products are all gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, corn-free and nut-free.
  • Sustainable. Hilary’s considers long-term sustainability in their business practices. They care about the health of customers, employees and ecosystem.
  • Yummy. If it doesn’t taste good, why even bother?

Kuli Kuli Moringa – A superfood for 2018

Although this plant was initially discovered for its beneficial properties thousands of years ago, only recently has moringa (sometimes called the Ben oil tree) become known as one of the most impressive herbal supplements to hit the holistic health market. In fact, in 2008 the National Institute of Health called moringa (moringa oleifera) the “plant of the year,” acknowledging that “perhaps like no other single species, this plant has the potential to help reverse multiple major environmental problems and provide for many unmet human needs.”

Kuli Kuli’s moringa is rich in iron, calcium, vitamins, and antioxidants, and provides a complete protein with all 9 essential amino acids. Gram for gram, moringa contains two times the amount of protein of yogurt, four times the amount of vitamin A as carrots, four times the amount of calcium as cow’s milk, seven times amount of vitamin C as oranges. I think you get the picture. 

Morninga has many benefits including: anti-inflammatory, balances hormones and slows the effects of aging, helps improve digestive health and balances blood sugar levels, to name a few.

Gluten Free Mulay’s Sausage Product Review

Many sausages have “fillers” in them that are grain based, and therefore contain gluten. Fillers help cut the cost of using 100% meat in a sausage. The grain also helps to absorb the fat in these traditionally fatty links. Well today, I want to introduce you to a sausage that is 100% gluten free. 

Mulay’s Sausage is a natural tradition made according to Nana’s centuries old recipes from Sicily. With a family crest that dates back to 1326 AD when ancestor Nicolo’ was the Senator of Palermo! Though the Mulay family has moved around a bit but nothing has been able to change the way Mulays’ make Sausage! It has always been All Natural and Gluten Free. It has never had nitrates, msg, soy, sugar, dairy, artificial colors or flavors; and it is still made that way today.

I am always on the lookout for protein bars, especially with my busy work schedule and travel, but most bars are loaded with sugar or unpronounceable ingredients. Go Umami offers an alternative; one that is savory, not sweet, and made with ingredients I can pronounce! 

Go Umami is available in 3 flavors: savory, orange teriyaki and hickory smoke that are non-GMO, Kosher and preservative free. The bars do require refrigeration, one of the reasons you won’t find preservatives, but can be a drawback for some. Personally, it doesn’t bother me except that I cannot bring them on long trips without a cooler!
